Dr Pramod Jha

About Me

Dr Pramod Jha completed his master and doctoral degree in Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry from ICAR-IARI, New Delhi in the year 2000 and 2004, respectively. He is having more than 23 years of experience (since M.Sc.) in the field of soil chemistry and fertility. He worked on the issues related to restoration of degraded land through cycling of organic matter during his initial years of posting at CSWCRTI, Dehradun regional centre Agra. Since 2009, he is working as Senior/Principal Scientist (Soil Chemistry/Fertility/Microbiology) in the Division of Soil Chemistry and Fertility and has completed more than 13 years in the division. Dr Pramod Jha is currently working in inter-institutional project sponsored by CIMMYT on urease inhibitor and working with IISC, Bangalore on Soil Processes under Long Term Ecological Observatories. Dr Pramod Jha also got an opportunity to work in international laboratory at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA as visiting scholar under the guidance of Dr Rattan Lal. He was also awarded with Endeavor Research Fellowship-2018 of Government of Australia for short-term post-doc research at University of Queensland, Brisbane, St Lucia, Qld, Australia under supervision of Dr Ram C Dalal. He developed wider understanding on carbon pool dynamics in soil and its subsequent impact on nitrogen availability, which led to the development of soil carbon and nitrogen prediction model, which was based on soil carbon saturation theory. He pioneered the work on biochar in agriculture under Indian conditions and clearly spelled out the potential areas where application of biochar could be used for the soil health improvement strategy. He parameterized and validated Rothamsted C model for major soils orders of India. He worked on different aspects of soil chemistry & fertility such as carbon and nitrogen dynamics in soil, biochar as soil amendment, MIR spectroscopy for soil health assessment, soil carbon simulation modelling, soil quality, nutrients transformation and carbon sequestration under the practice of conservation agriculture etc.
